We know that dads have many needs and demands:<\/p>\n

  • Emotional in nature: shock, anxiety, anger, sadness, disbelief, helplessness, difficulty sleeping.<\/strong> Informative: medical vocabulary, existence of new studies, need to learn places in the hospital, names of doctors, difficulties in explaining the disease to the rest of the family and friends.<\/li>\n

    ATTENTION TO FAMILIES<\/h1>\n

    At the Mar\u00eda Cecilia Foundation, we closely accompany both the child in treatment and his family. We believe that it is extremely important to provide psychological support.<\/p>\n

    We know the emotions that are aroused in the family context and the need to find support and empathy. Therefore, we offer to accompany them and provide our support to travel this path.     The child undergoing cancer treatment is deprived of being able to maintain his usual customs, including the school environment. When the adult expects the child to continue with his school development, he is indirectly telling him that he has a future.<\/p>\n

    Attending school allows children to fulfill their potential and development, which is why returning to the classroom is a normalizing factor after hospitalization. Although there are tasks that the child is affected to interrupt, it is important to enhance those that he can continue. This allows your cognitive and social skills to continue to develop.<\/h2>\n

    Going back to school allows him to stay connected to a normal life and reinforces his hope for a cure. Studies carried out in different countries show that those children who better readapted were those who had remained in contact with the teachers of the school of origin throughout the treatment; since the child's identity as a member of the group had been maintained.<\/p>\n

    The child with cancer needs to be viewed in school primarily as a student, and not as a patient. The school provides a refuge where the child can be free from the cares and worries of the hospital. For this reason, it is recommended that parents, doctors and teachers improve awareness of the importance of continuing socialization with their peers during the treatment period.<\/p>\n

    This allows limiting the consequences they may have upon reentering the school after treatment is completed. The entrance to school of children with cancer marks the return to activities typical of their age, a process full of changes and adjustments.<\/p>\n

    The pediatric oncologist plays a key role in providing instructions to the child, the family, other members of the health team and the school about this process.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

    In summary, the school continuity of the child with cancer is of the utmost importance, since it conveys a message of perspective in the future, and educational care as part of medical treatment allows them to develop their social and cognitive skills.<\/p>\n
